Diplo, Sia, and Labrinth unveil new super group LSD, deliver debut single ‘Genius’

Post EDM-conquest Diplo is living his best life. 2018 has seen the mega producer step away from writing massive radio-destined pop hits and into more experimental spaces, starting with the the announcement of this summer’s Silk City disco project with Mark Ronson and the release of his first solo work in four years on the California EP. Now, following his well-received collection of sad boy rap, Diplo is launching a trippy new side project, linking with Sia and UK multi-threat Labrinth for a super group called LSD.

The name comes from the group members’ first initials, but ultimately plays into the project’s digestibly psychedelic theme. LSD at first glance is like if Major Lazer had a new-wave Sgt. Pepper’s aesthetic — incorporating imaginative animations and narratives to their first single and accompanying video, “Genius,” from the trio’s upcoming debut album. The track finds Labrinth and Sia swapping syncopated versework over a characteristically catchy hip-hop lite Diplo beat. “Genius” lands just ahead of the group’s impending second single “Audio,” due sometime in mid-May. Diplo and Sia have proven to be a successful pairing in the past, and now with the addition of Labrinth, who’s reportedly due to release his sophomore studio album later this year, it looks like LSD might be the perfect summer trip-hop/pop stylings we didn’t know we needed.
