Vevo will shut down website, mobile app

It’s the end of an era for music video hosting site Vevo.

The company has announced in a blog post that it will be shutting down its website and mobile app.

Vevo explains that the company will “remain focused on engaging the biggest audiences and pursuing growth opportunities” and will be pursuing ways to work with additional platforms to increase access to the service’s content.

Vevo continue to produce original content like dscvr and LIFT when the site and app are shut down, and the company will still distribute content through YouTube. It has also been reported that current Vevo users will be able to convert their Vevo playlists to YouTube playlists.

“At Vevo, our objective is to grow the commercial and promotional value of music videos, fostering deep connections between artists and fans,” reads a company blog post. “To be most effective in achieving those goals, we will phase out elements of our owned and operated platforms.”
