Amoeba Records’ flagship shop opens in-house marijuana dispensary

With the swelling resurgence of vinyl record interest across the US and Amoeba Records’ flagship shop integration of an official marijuana dispensary, it’s safe to say stoners and audiophiles alike will be flying high with the new one-stop essentials shop.

According to Billboard, Amoeba Records’ co-founders Marc Weinstein and Dave Prinz will be implementing a new marijuana dispensary, aptly dubbed Hi-Fidelity, at the shop’s Berkley, California storefront.

“Music, in some ways, is such an uplifting product for humans and we thought, weed is just another inspirational product that we can get behind with our hearts and souls,”

Weinstein stresses, explaining the connection as a logical next move.

Having applied for a medical marijuana dispensary permit and gained the mayor’s approval, Amoeba was granted its dispensary license in 2016. Last month, Hi-Fidelity had its soft-launch, which the Mayor Jesse Arreguín attended, making the shop one of six dispensaries in Berkeley. If all goes as planned, Weinstein hopes to generate $10 million gross per year, as well as open a cannabis dispensary in each of Amoeba’s three other stores.
