Apple Music introduces hub dedicated to full mixes, highlights new Rinzen mix
Apple recently launched a section of Apple Music that is dedicated to DJ Mixes + Live Sets. Long confined to the Podcasts section of the iTunes Store, full mixes are slowly making their way to the standard — aka monetized — portion of music services. The company leading the charge is Dubset Media, who works with labels and publishing companies to get the rights to distribute and monetize these full mixes.
Apple Music is featuring the collection front and center on the Dance genre homepage, and surely will use this hub as a place to showcase more interesting mixes and live sets in the future. At the moment, it’s more of about consumer education than anything – most people think of Soundcloud or YouTube when they think of full mixes, not Apple Music or Spotify.
Highlighting a new crop of quality mixes is one from DA favorite Rinzen, plus more from artists Wax Motif, Steve Aoki, and Syn Cole.
For artists looking to get their own mixes up on official streaming platforms, Dubset is trying to make that process as seamless as possible. Anyone can submit a mix as an artist: creating a MixBANK account allows artists to have your DJ mixes and remixes streaming across Apple Music, Spotify, and more. All in all it’s an exciting time where artists can have their works, both original and derivative, all under one consolidated profile.
Dubset is slowly making headway to where artists can use songs from all major labels in their mixes. They have a solidified partnership with Sony, and are moving closer to securing deals with the other two majors. The company has also signed up Merlin, who distributes numerous top indie labels.
