Chris Liebing announces debut album on Mute, leads with new Gary Numan-led single
Though Chris Liebing‘s origins in dance music can be traced all the way back to Frankfurt in the ’90s, he’s yet to release an album on the storied Mute label — at least until now. Liebing has just announced his debut album for Mute, Burn Slow, will be released Sept. 7.
Accompanying his announcement, comes the ominous Gary Numan-led single, “Polished Chrome (The Friend Pt. 1).”
This eerie new track is an appropriate introduction to Burn Slow, which a press release describes as a complete change of pace for the artist, a “minimalist electronic epic” with vocal contributions from a diverse range of artists including Miles Cooper Seaton, Mute labelmate Polly Scattergood, Cold Cave, Aleen, and of course, Gary Numan.
The release continues to describe the concept of presence as a driving force on the record. Liebing grew inspired by the idea that everything is happening in the moment, as well as post-punk, particularly two remixes — Depeche Mode‘s “Going Backwards” and Goldfrapp‘s “Everything Is Never Enough.” “Without realizing, a lot of the music I was into came from just one label – Mute. I vividly remember dancing around at my neighbor’s house in the early ‘80s to songs by Depeche Mode and Yazoo. Banging my head in dark basements to the likes of DAF, Laibach and Nitzer Ebb to name but a few.”
