Low End Theory announces the end of an era, books 10 final shows

Los Angeles’ premiere party-starter and event collective Low End Theory has announced the final shows in its decade-plus run.

The weekly DJ nights, co-founded by Alpha Pup boss Daddy Kev, DJ Boring, and The Gaslamp Killer in 2006, had an enormous impact on hip-hop and bass music in the states. The party, which ran every Wednesday night at The Airliner in L.A., went on to launch the careers of numerous notable acts, whose regulars over the years included Flying Lotus, The Glitch Mob, Daedelus, and Nosaj Thing. Special guests over the years have included the likes of Thom Yorke, Erykah Badu, and James Blake.

The founders have explained that the decision to cancel the event did not come with its challenges.

“There are several factors affecting this decision,” they announced via Facebook. “Family obligations. Work demands. Life. The general consensus amongst the residents is that we have overstayed our welcome, and our greatest hope now is that the final ten weeks of Low End Theory can serve as a time for the beat community to set aside our differences, come together, and hopefully remember what made Low End Theory a special place to begin with: the music.”

The final 10 Low End Theory events run through August 8.
