Andrew Bayer releases transformative ‘Your Eyes’ ahead of new album
Anjunabeats powerhouse Above & Beyond’s “4th member,” Andrew Bayer has spent the better part of a decade carving an indelible foothold for himself at the peak the electronic music totem pole through trance, electronica, and progressive. Now, with the release of “Your Eyes,” featuring Scandinavian vocalist, Ane Brun, of Norway, Bayer has clearly taken a turn back into If It Were You, We’d Never Leave territory with celestial synth pop. The release is the first dose of Bayer’s full-scale In My Last Life project, to be housed by his home label.
“Your Eyes” manages to salvage a walloping, 4/4 beat, while introducing modern synth-pop sensibility. The laser-like synth blasts drum up early images of Passion Pit or MGMT, while the otherworldly, folk-inspired vocals embody electronic pop innovators CHVRCHES. The ethereal video, with its swimming kaleidoscope of oil on water, is an exquisite representation of the transcendent nature of the song, as well as Bayer’s “reinvention,” as Anjunabeats referred to it in a recent release.
Bayer will be embarking on an end-of-year tour, to coincide with the album, making stops in Hong Kong, the US, and Canada.
