Disclosure pivot to ’80s disco on third release of the week, ‘Love Can Be So Hard’

On Monday, August 22, it was “Moonlight.” Then came “Where Angels Fear to Tread“on Tuesday. Both singles, driven by inspiration from a capella hits from the first half of the 20th century, were shared as a shock to fans by Disclosure earlier this week. But it’s clear the week of August 20 is going to be a dominating week for new music from the UK duo, as they’ve dropped yet another single entitled “Love Can Be So Hard.”

The pioneering garage and electronic production team has pivoted to a new form of music for their inspiration this time, citing artists like Alexander O’Neal and Luther Vandross as their creative fuel. Premiered by BBC Radio 1xtra’s DJ Target, “Love Can Be So Hard” is pure retro disco that’s veiled in an infectious silvery tint of pop familiarity. There’s still no official word on an upcoming album from Disclosure as of yet, but we can only further speculate that these singles will lead to a new larger project.
