Eric Clapton will pay homage to Avicii on forthcoming ‘Happy Xmas’ album

Eric Clapton’s forthcoming 14-track Christmas LP is full of holiday classics like “White Christmas” and “Silent Night.” But the rock legend surprised the EDM community by including a tribute to the late Avicii on “Jingle Bells (In Memory of Avicii),” which is slated to be the album’s seventh track.

Twenty-eight-year-old superstar producer Avicii was pronounced dead of apparent suicide on April 20. He had struggled with substance abuse throughout his career — something Clapton, too, struggled with for decades before getting sober in the early 1990s.

“In the lowest moments of my life, the only reason I didn’t commit suicide was that I knew I wouldn’t be able to drink any more if I was dead,” Clapton wrote in his 2007 autobiography. “It was the only thing I thought was worth living for, and the idea that people were about to try and remove me from alcohol was so terrible that I drank and drank and drank, and they had to practically carry me into the clinic.”

Happy Xmas is available for pre-order and will be out Oct. 12.
