RÜFÜS DU SOL are never in a rush to arrive at the climactic points of their productions, a hallmark of the Australian trio’s style evident on 2016 single, “Innerbloom,” and similarly so on the comparatively more recent “No Place,” the first track to gain release off of RÜFÜS’s forthcoming album, SOLACE. Yet the measured nature of the group’s builds, and the viscous pace with which RÜFÜS DU SOL approach the ascendant junctures in their individual songs is itself climactic; RÜFÜS gradually introduce layers of rich instrumentation that progressively augment, culminating in meticulously crafted affective peaks and accompanying descents that satiate listeners’ collective desire for builds and drops with developmental depth, a desire originally catalyzed by RÜFÜS’s painstaking dedication to slow mounting but satisfying sonic climbs.

A RÜFÜS DU SOL remixer could easily quicken the pace of a RÜFÜS production to effect a different sound, but as Lindstrom & Prins Thomas understand on their “No Place” remix, to do so would be to sacrifice the intricacy that underscores RÜFÜS DU SOL’s in studio expertise.

Lindstrom & Prins Thomas double down on “No Place’s” play count to put forth a rework that sits just over ten-minutes in length, and delves further into instrumental innovation in that time. A soft piano melody placed at the intro provides a modest and mellow introduction to the re-imagined single, while equally subtle drum work replaces the dramatic rhythm of the synth work that punctuates the original. A mellifluous take on “No Place” that maintains the integrity of the original while offering a more minimalistic lens through which to re-envision “No Place,” Lindstrom & Prins Thomas’ take is sonic bliss at its very best.
