The Chainsmokers ditch pop on new NGHTMRE-assisted ‘Save Yourself’
Call The Chainsmokers output radio fodder, but fans will be hard pressed to call their newest collaboration with NGHTMRE remotely close to the pop music that propelled the duo to megastardom. The track is titled “Save Yourself,” and it is a part of The Chainsmokers’ steady stream of releases, landing as the sixth track on their EP, Sick Boy.
Fans were surprised when NGHTMRE previewed the joint project during his EDC Las Vegas performance, and the full release proves that a live set is the track’s perfect home. “Save Yourself” features a monstrous bassline holding steady through dancing chords that build into cutting dubstep breaks. Drew Taggart is the vocalist on the track, which manages to complement the heavy production without being the focal point of the song. The Chainsmokers spoke in an official release about how the track serves as a ‘coming home’ for the duo, in a departure of their dominating pop sound.
“We are really excited about this tune. Tyler (NGHTMRE) has been a good friend of ours for sometime and we always talked about how great it would be to work together on a song. We have always been a huge fan of his style of producing and thought that if we came together on a song we could make something really unique and badass, and the idea of making something really gnarly was very appealing… We come from the dance world, those are our roots and we are really excited to release a song that is deeply rooted in that with NGHTMRE.”
