Anjunabeats drops off nostalgic two-hour ‘Best of Mat Zo’ mix

To mark his return to Anjunabeats, the label has released two continuous hours of Mat Zo‘s best on Above & Beyond‘s imprint. The producer most recently dropped an uplifting trance anthem titled “Meaning Lost All Words” on Oliver Smith‘s Anjunabeats Worldwide 08 compilation. Although it’s hard to believe, the track marks 10 whole years since Mat Zo first exploded into the trance world on the label with 2008’s Rush/Defined. Since then, he’s carved out a reputation for experimentation and creative freedom rivaled by few in the dance music world. That chameleon spirit has lead to some Anjunabeats’ most exciting releases, including the artist’s dizzyingly diverse and brilliant debut LP, Damage Control, in 2013.

Though the producer didn’t mix these two hours himself, the mix features some of the very best of early Mat Zo, including hits like “Superman” and the Arty-assisted “Mozart.” Damage Control is, of course, well represented, with both “Pyramid Scheme” and Porter Robinson collab “Easy” sounding as crisp as they did on release day. But it’s deeper cuts like the effortless cool of “Only For You,” and the eerie majesty of “The Lost” that show just how powerful the producer’s track record on Anjunabeats has been over the years.
