Chris Lake and Green Velvet team up on ‘Deceiver’
Chris Lake should have started his Black Book Records years ago. The newly formed label has brought together multiple talents in ways we haven’t seen before, including now on its latest release, “Deceiver,” where Lake himself is in collaboration with out-of-the-box techno veteran Green Velvet. Following link-ups with Destructo and Walker & Royce, Lake is setting a new kind of example for artists looking to launch their own labels.
“Deceiver” has the signature mark of Chris Lake’s 2018 and the same modus operandi as Green Velvet’s status quo: a cheeky commentary on the party scene fellow dance artists take so seriously. On “Deceiver,” it’s the hypnotic repetition of “Whatchu talkin’ bout?” that takes center stage. Propelled by a loopy, acidic bassline, the track gets into all the deepest crevices of house music.
