Major Lazer continue their dive into African dance culture with music video for ‘Orkant/Balance Pon It’ featuring Babes Wodumo

Major Lazer has always reached towards their strong Caribbean roots. Recently, they’ve released a Afrobeats mix, two singles, and now, two music videos for “All My Life” featuring Burna Boy and most recently, “Orkant/Balance Pon It” featuring Babes Wodumo. The veteran dance trio continue to prove their unique edge in the electronic music space by representing those from Africa, pushing sounds emanating from Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria and other African countries.

The music video for “Orkant/Balance Pon It” features South Africa’s Babes Wodumo and is directed by South African-native Adriaan Louw, who also directed Major Lazer’s “Particula” tape. It was filmed in the country’s coastal city of Durban, as Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire continue to represent music’s motherland with big production content. Afrobeat-inspired rhythms and pitched-down patois carry the percussive dance track, landing as another well-crafted crossover from the masters of cultural assimilation. Major Lazer is continuing their stint in Africa with a six-date tour across the continent, starting off in Johannesburg from late September through early October.
