1788-L brings renegade funk with official flip of The Glitch Mob’s ‘Disintegrate Slowly’
In his first flex since the blistering S E N T I E N C E EP on Zeds Dead‘s Deadbeats imprint, 1788-L returns to the remix ring with a heavy new flip of The Glitch Mob‘s “Disintegrate Slowly.” The mysterious producer’s contribution to The Glitch Mob’s remix-stuffed deluxe edition of their See Without Eyes LP serves as a loud reminder for any fans remiss of his remixing savvy.
1788-L’s take borrows the original’s hard rock backbone and speeds things up for an extra dose of energy–and that’s before the gritty bass and pounding percussion take hold. Building around a synth-riff steeped in guitar-style twang, the track explodes into one of the artist’s most nuanced drops to date. The familiar distorted crackle envelopes a glitch-heavy breakbeat and a destructively funky bass line. It’s clear the producer is feeling free and easy to expand his sonic signature to new rhythmic and experimental territory. Even among the heavy hitters delivering the album’s remix consignments, including Machinedrum and REZZ, 1788’s rendition is still an unequivocal standout.
