Kito teams with Hudson Mohawke for tripped-out slapper, ‘Pamplemousse’
Although trip hop maestro Kito is undoubtedly on a journey, it’s all on a full circle return after a breakup lead her back to her hometown of Denmark, Australia. There she began work on her recent HAANI EP, pouring herself into the catharsis of music creation. Among the project’s six stellar cuts, a collaboration with fellow trippy beats bastion Hudson Mohawke called “Pamplemousse” is a clear standout.
A twinkling, gliding pluck echoes out the ambiance for a moment before the first of the two producers knocking percussion layers engage. A warbling synth slithers in next as the pieces pile on, culminating in a driving, swelling crescendo into the familiar spaced out blips. The break beat returns in full force as the track lurches and wobbles drunkenly to the end. The collab is reminiscent of Hudson Mohawke and Lunice‘s classic TNGHT project, as Kito adds her own sonic recipe to the delicious joint track.
