Martin Garrix and Khalid discuss how a fan’s tweet helped spur their collaboration in ‘The Martin Garrix Show’ season 3, episode 6

Watch Martin Garrix‘s team put together a six room music video shoot in an empty warehouse on a week’s notice in the latest episode of The Martin Garrix Show. The music video they are filming for is for Garrix’s hit collaboration with Khalid, and the shoot is not without it’s momentary downfalls given the short notice. This includes a moment where a swarm of bats descends on the set, however the staff and artist seemingly keep their cool, after all, Garrix knows a thing or two about “Animals” anyway. Zing!

Garrix and Khalid chat about the collaboration, noting that a tweet is what actually spurred the initial idea for the two to work together. A series of FaceTime calls later, and “Oceans” was in motion. The Dutch producer wrote the song initially on a boat with a guitar, and sent the idea to the “Young, Dumb, and Broke” crooner. Khalid responded with “I call dibs,” and Garrix reflects that it even made him upset — he thought Khalid called someone about the track, as he was not familiar with the American colloquialism. The producer speaks about how “Oceans” is an evolution of his sound thanks to its simplistic and instrumental nature. He notes that he will certainly produce more hard hitting electronic tracks in the future, but the variety and experimentation is what currently keeps him interested.
