Good Morning Mix: A dreamy Sasha & John Digweed set from 1996 ahead of their Free Your Mind Amsterdam takeover in February

Sasha and John Digweed began their partnership in 1993, and with a palpable chemistry behind the decks and the release of their legendary Renaissance and the first of their Northern Exposure mix compilations, they soon were considered one of the top tag teams in dance music. A residence at New York’s legendary Twilo and even a stadium tour would be in store by the turn of the millennium, forever locking in their legendary status. Eventually, however, John Digweed and Sasha would become increasingly distant, taking what would be a near-decade hiatus after 2010. Their reunion at the end of 2017 was thus a momentous occasion for longtime fans, and newer underground aficionados who had missed their first chance at seeing them together.

As preparations continue for an exciting date in a warehouse in Amsterdam for Free Your Mind, we decided to go back in the past and dig out a rare recording to wake up to. The set we’ve chosen dates back to their early years together, where they’d stopped by Simon’s in Gainsville, Florida for a near-seven hour set in 1996. The 6.5-hour recording captures multitudes classic house and progressive, mixed with pure mastery that continues into the modern day—a perfect preparation for their extended jaunt together in Amsterdam.
