Kaskade goes back-to-back with a fan for his 18th birthday [Watch]
When Kaskade fan, Efrain Cuessy, was diagnosed with stage-two Hodgkin’s lymphoma at the age of 17, he had several rounds of chemotherapy treatments to face, and a choice to make: what to wish for, through Make-A-Wish Foundation. A longtime Kaskade listener, Cuessy decided to use his wish to bring the “Fun” producer to his approaching 18th birthday party.
Not long after Cuessy shared his wish with fellow members of the tightly knit community of Kaskade fans, Kaskade Konnect, Cuessy heard from Kaskade’s Media Director, Jodi Call.
“Jodi told me to save my wish–this one would be on the Kaskade team,” Cuessy recalled in an Instagram post. “I could not piece those words together. When I told my parents that Kaskade would be coming to my party, they laughed,” Cuessy writes. “They knew how much I loved Kaskade and how I’d always wanted to see him perform since I’d first heard his music.”
Updates from the Kaskade camp interspersed Cuessy’s chemotherapy, until the series of calendar days arrived at Cuessy’s birthday, January 31. Having received a cancer-free diagnosis 16 days prior, Cuessy certainly had cause to celebrate. PRG and Sexy Lites donated the equipment that would convert Cuessy’s birthday party from a backyard celebration, to a fully loaded electronic atmosphere. Owner of Sexy Lites, Sean Guarino, and Vice President of PRG, Tim Brennan, car pooled to personally drive the entertainment hardware from Las Vegas, to Cuessy’s home in Whittier, California. When all of the necessary tech was in place and ready to go, all the party was missing was Kaskade.
“Kaskade walked into my backyard, said hi to me, and asked if I was ready for a little back-to-back action,” Cuessy continued of Kaskade’s arrival at his party.
Cuessy and Kaskade shared the decks for a 30-minute set. After Cuessy and Kaskade’s back-to-back performance, Kaskade took over to deliver what would be Cuessy’s first-ever live Kaskade set.
“If I could hang out with my fans on this small of a scale every day I would. Getting to know Efrain and his story was such an inspiration for me. It was an automatic ‘Yes’ when I heard that he wanted me to play his 18th birthday party in his backyard,” Kaskade says. “When I found out he wanted to play before me, I insisted on a b2b – this is how we did it back in the day. I’m so appreciative of everyone who donated their time and equipment to celebrate Efrain’s birthday, and I’m honored that he asked me to be part of it.”
