Back in 2017, audio device manufacturer Sonos and Swedish home furniture giant IKEA announced a forthcoming collaborative project dubbed SYMFONISK. The new speaker concept was expected to blend Sonos‘ sleek tech with IKEA’s beloved design sensibilities for a functional smart speaker meant to compete with the Echo and Google Home devices. Now, as IKEA gives the world its first look at the new device, it seems both companies delivered in their respective areas of expertise on the new SYMFONISK.

While IKEA has yet to announce any official specifications for the new device, the official unveiling is expected to take place in Milan between April 9 – 14. Rumor has it the SYMFONISK could be used as a wall-mounted shelf and that it could even be equipped with Wi-Fi compatibility, as well as smart speaker functions compatible with light switches and dimmers. The SYMFONISK is expected to start shipping this summer, see the first images below.
