Underworld announce forthcoming new album and tour dates

British dance music pioneers, Underworld, have a new album and new tour dates on the way.

Since November 2018 the band—comprised of members Karl Hyde and Rick Smith—have engaged in what they’ve called the Drift series. This is an innovative audio-visual experiment through which they’ve planned to release new material every week for a year. They have put out new music, music videos, and even text pieces as a part of the project.

Their new album, Drift Songs, will be released at the conclusion of the project during the last week of the cycle on October 25, 2019. The album itself will expand on music the duo has released throughout these past few months, with the first official single being a retelling of “Soniamode,” a song of the second episode of the Drift series. In the description for the original as a part of the larger series, Smith wrote:

“Is this one finished…? No but it’s coming out anyway.”

The single is entitled “Soniamode” (Aditya Game Version), and it can be presumed the track is now finished. This new version almost doubles the length of the original to a more familiar runtime for dance tracks (over six minutes) and gives the gritty synths more room to breathe alongside the casual spirit of the vocals.

Coinciding with their biggest musical and visual project across their decades-long career, Smith and Hyde have announced their biggest headlining shows to date in support of this album. Together they will perform at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp, the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, and The Wembley Arena in London. These shows will not feature any opening acts either. Underworld will perform music from doors to closing similar to their show at Alexandra Palace back in 2017.
