UPDATED: Helicopter crash led to Backwoods cancellation, deaths of three attendees
Update: Three people in the crash—the helicopter’s pilot, Sarah Hill of Austin, Texas, and Marco Orneals of Mexico—have been reported deceased as of 4pm CST on June 3. One unnamed passenger is severely injured.
Tragedy struck, and ultimately took down Backwoods festival in Arkansas on Sunday night, June 2, as it was beginning to wrap up its last day of programming. A sightseeing helicopter, which had been carrying four attendees, crashed earlier in the evening, leading organizers to cancel the rest of the event out of respect for those affected. Performers affected included G Jones, Zeds Dead, and Caspa.
The latest reports advise that, the missing helicopter has since been found nearby the festival and several injuries have been reported. Official conditions of those involved in the crash are not being released to the public at this time; however, it appears as though the accident has not claimed any lives. The cause of the crash is also to be determined.
