Run the Jewels are working on new album, ‘RTJ4,’ with Rick Rubin

Rap supergroup Run the Jewels announced in their latest newsletter that they have tapped industry icon Rick Rubin for assistance on their forthcoming LP Run the Jewels 4. The duo, comprised of Brooklyn rapper and producer El-P and Atlanta rapper Killer Mike, revealed via their digital announce that they recently stopped by Rubin’s Los Angeles studio in efforts to “keep shit moving,” in reference to the impending project.

“We’ve been going hard on RTJ4 and have a genuine excitement to share new music with you all. We stand behind our statement that this record is going to punch you in the fucking face and burn everything in its path,” the duo announced in allusion to the album. “We thank you for your continued patience as we put together what we believe will be our best record yet.”

Since releasing their first volume of their widely acclaimed self-titled LP Run the Jewels, El-P and Killer Mike have been relentless in their follow-up albums —RTJ2 in 2014 and RTJ3 in 2016 and proved to be one of the most explosive hip-hop acts of the better part of the decade. Now, anticipation for RTJ4 is at an all-time high. El-P tweeted in a since-deleted post that the album would most likely drop in summer of 2019, writing “i’m sorry if that schedule disappoints anyone but we need the time to make sure the music doesn’t.”
