Wave Racer makes triumphant return with playful ‘Auto’
The world has missed Wave Racer. It’s been 902 days (but who’s counting?) since the release of his last piece of work, a remix of Tkay Maidza’s “Carry On,” and it’s been even longer since his last original. The wait, however, ends today with the release of “Auto.”
The Australian producer created buzz earlier this week when he changed his profile photo across social media platforms and teased new music by having fans call a phone number that previewed “Auto.”
The new tune makes its debut on June 27, bringing back a version of the playful “bubble trap” genre the artist became known for, exhibited in hit tunes like 2014’s “Streamers.” He’s modernized the style, though, bringing “Auto” into 2019 with a bubbly introduction and filtered vocals. As it progresses, the song drips with effortless swagger, even ushering in an unexpected guitar theme that rocks steady throughout the tune. Still, it’s easygoing, breezy, and bright—the perfect reintroduction to an artist who did so much for the early days of future bass.
Though it’s not as energetic as the racing synths of his Panama remix, “Auto” sees Wave Racer eagerly re-assert himself in the electronic music scene. Longtime fans will instantly recognize “Auto” as pure, unadulterated Wave Racer—refreshed and clearly reinvigorated in 2019.
