Dusky mixes it up with new EP, ‘Life Signs Vol. 1’ [Stream]

Dusky returns to Running Back Records with a howler of an EP, sprinkling everything from Italo disco influences and breakbeat drum patterns atop the UK duo’s trademark deep house grooves.

Titled Life Signs Vol. 1, the release opens with “Boris Borrison’s Trip To Morrisons,” fusing the aforementioned and beloved Italo disco bassline with classic rave stabs to show a characteristically impressive range for a group who has long defined themselves on deep-house motifs.

Dusky keeps the dial on retro with “Lea Valley” exploring from the group’s upbringing in the British club scene. In the release liner, the group writes:

“‘Lea Valley’ is a homage to the area in London along the river Lea, home to a mix of nature reserves and industrial warehouses and wasteland, historically famous for illegal parties. The area was a regular haunt in our teenage raving days.”

“Static” finishes the releases as refreshingly as it began, achieving the rare balance of being delicately emotive while remaining ultimately danceable. An underutilized breakbeat gives “Static” a unique saunter while deep, melodic plucks keep the track comfortable under the umbrella of Dusky’s signature sound.
