‘Old Town Road’ smashes Billboard Hot 100 record with 17 weeks at No. 1

For 17 weeks straight, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus‘ “Old Town Road” has sat atop the iconic Billboard Hot 100 chart, breaking previous records installed by the likes of Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men.

The infamous song first entered No. 1 territory on April 13, and fans haven’t looked back since then. In the weeks following, “Old Town Road” has continued to hold down the coveted slot, eventually beating out the 16-week records set by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men with “One Sweet Day” in 1995 and Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber with “Despacito” in 2017.

From January to June, the music industry overall clocked in a record 507 billion streams. Of those, “Old Town Road” is the only song to hit more than 1 billion steams, making it the most-streamed song of 2019 by a huge margin.
