Area 51 festival cancelled on account of safety concerns

At times, certain ideas are simply too good to be true. It appears that was the case with Alienstock—the festival inspired by the viral ‘storm Area 51’ Facebook event page. Creators of the page, who’d evolved into Alienstock’s organizers, announced its cancellation early in the morning on September 11 due to infrastructure and safety risks.

“We are not interested in, nor will we tolerate any involvement in a Fyre Fest 2.0. We foresee a possible humanitarian disaster in the works, and we can’t participate in any capacity at this point,” voiced the announcement. It dove into further detail citing that festival permit holder, Connie West, had failed to show receipt of crucial measures needed for attendee safety, risk management, and deposits made to various contractors involved in the festival’s organization.

Alienstock and its owner Matty Roberts will instead be working to relaunch the event in Downtown Las Vegas as a free party on September 19, with a lineup curated by Collective Zoo. That being said, Connie West is still holding onto the idea of Alienstock and promising the event will still take place in the original locale of Rachel, NV with local talent playing it.
