AC Slater delivers dusky second studio album, ‘Hi8’

AC Slater puts forth a heady collection of bass house cuts on Hi8. The 12-track sequel to 2017’s Outsiders surfaced without warning; the Night Bass head honcho surprised fans with the release, which sees involvement from an array of collaborators, including Chris Lorenzo, Young Lyxx, and Jay Robinson, among others. Previously released singles “Laid Off” and “Final Fantasy,” slot on Hi8.
True to AC Slater’s dusky style of sound, Hi8 pairs reverberating, UK garage influenced basslines with dark chords, wonky sound effects, and monotone, spoken vocals. The effect is a tenebrous, speaker intoxicating production that flaunts the edgy finesse of AC Slater’s aesthetic.
