Ducky’s New EP is fall’s festival soundtrack

While it’s only October, DJ/producer Ducky is already prepping for 2020’s festival season on her new Optimism EP. Born in San Francisco, Ducky (real name Morgan Neiman) is a veteran of the dance music scene, as she’s been DJing club gigs since the age of 13 and started releasing original music in 2015. And, she does it all by appearing as an anime character on each album cover.

Currently LA-based, Neiman made waves out West with her “Ugh Just Rave” parties, leading to releases on gaming star Ninja’s Astralwerks compilation, Zeds Dead imprint Deadbeats, Jauz‘s Bite This, and more.

Now, Neiman follows previous single “Glue” with an EP that will elevate crowds to another level. With lead single “Stable Heart,” the harmonized vox and pitched vocals generate feelings of positivity before it escalates into dubbed-out hard-style. “The Only One” kicks off the project and includes some drum and bass geared production. While the sound is different on each track, Ducky is able to — ironically — stay consistent on each track with diverse climaxes, “The Only One” quickly dropping into Moombaton comprised of rough, wavy synths.

The final track entitled “My Flower, Your Garden” starts with auto-tune from Ducky herself on the opening verse, dropping into some uptempo house music layered with wild leads and looped, bold vocals. The track can be compared to a hybrid of Charli XCX and Sofi Tukker, demonstrating production that stems from a variety of sonic influencers. Ducky had some words on the project:

This is an ep about falling in love when you’re not sure you’re ready to, when you didn’t plan to, when you’re still broken. it moves through that process in order, from facing that damage head on, tearing yourself open anyways, and feeling the rewards of intimacy and softness with another person. it’s about knowing that you can, in fact that you will, at some point, be hurt by this person – even if it’s inadvertent – and saying fuck it, i believe that i can grow with them…that it could lead to something new, something blissful, something worth risking my heart for.

Right off the EP’s release, Ducky will be touring throughout the US this October, including stops in Boca Raton, FL at a DeadBeats showcase, HARD Red Rocks Halloween in Morrison, CO, and Bassmnt in San Diego with 1799-L. Check here for tickets and more info.
