Foreign Beggars’ final album, ‘Matriarchy,’ will drop Dec. 13

After 18 years of innovative beats and buttery smooth vocals, the UK hip-hop/bass brigade known as Foreign Beggars will soon be laid to rest, with the group’s final album set to drop Friday, Dec. 13.

Foreign Beggars are largely known for their impact in the modern dubstep soundscape, with collaborations alongside fellow bass royalty Knife Party and more recently Feed Me, but long-time fans know the four-piece outfit as being deeply rooted in hip-hop culture of the early 2000s. Check out the group’s very first release below, 2003’s silky smooth “Where Did The Sun Go.”

The first single from Matriarchy, titled “Kings and Queens,” shows Foreign Beggars bringing their sound home, giving up the drama of the drop for grooves that are made for kickin’ it. Orifice Vulgatron, known as half of the group’s vocal department, commented on the album’s production:

“It also felt important and natural to express the messages and experiences on the type of hip hop beats that propelled us into existence and are truly representation of our era of music. When we started the album it hadn’t intended to be the last album but that’s the way things transpired so it added more emotional gravity to the creative process.”

Although this may be the end of Foreign Beggars, fans can still expect more music from its members as the split is partly so they can each “tell their stories as individual artists.”
