Dexter’s Beat Laboratory Vol. 129

Dexter’s Beat Laboratory is a weekly collection of songs from DA managing editor Robyn Dexter. With a taste that can only be described as eclectic—to say nothing of a name that lends itself to punnery—DA is happy to present a selection of tracks personally curated by Dexter for your listening pleasure.

3LAU, Grabbitz, and Shaun Frank come together this Valentine’s Day for a slow-burning house tune, “At Night.” This moody collaboration is an impeccably produced amalgamation of the three artists’ styles and is sure to delight fans of all three musicians.

Nostalgia hits hard in blanke’s new flip of Paramore’s iconic “crushcrushcrush” from the band’s hit 2007 album, Riot! Blanke revives the 13-year-old song with an electronic twist, adding dramatic synth layers and a hefty helping of bass.

Trivecta and Varien have been friends for years, but until today, they’d never released a collaborative song together. “We always knew it wasn’t something we’d want to force,” Trivecta shared. “Recently I was working on a remix for [Varien] when I realized it was getting so far off track that maybe it would be cool to turn it into an original collab. Boom. ‘Revelation’ was born.” This powerful psytrance collaboration is a true force to be reckoned with.

Feb. 14 marks the release of Far Out‘s new EP, Bridges in Time. The seven-track effort expertly showcases the depth of Far Out’s production, from its emotive piano intro and orchestral outro to formidable tunes like “Our Own” with vocalist Micah Martin. Martin’s striking vocals vividly complement Far Out’s instrumentals, making it a standout in this collection of songs.

Those who’ve seen Luttrell live recently will recognize his latest release, “Some Other Time,” as a set staple. The song, which makes its mark as the second single from his forthcoming Lucky Ones album, has a beautiful air of mystery around it. It’s both complex and minimalist and only fuels the anticipation for his upcoming body of work further.
