Revisit Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s widely praised Super Bowl LIV halftime highlights [Watch]
Super Bowls may come and go, but it seems their halftime shows live on forever. 2020’s billing is no exception, as Shakira and Jennifer Lopez become the first two latina singers to headline what is ultimately a national holiday half celebrating football and half a celebration of American sports culture—and boy, what a celebration it was. The show, running double the length of a normal Super Bowl halftime event, was well choreographed and featured honestly talented performers, managing to break into “over-the-top-in-all-the-right-ways” status right from the onset.
Free of dancing sharks and animatronic tigers, this year’s Pepsi halftime spectacle did still manage to answer the pressing questions, “How many fireworks can be shot off while dad goes to the bathroom?,” and, “What’s painted on J Balvin‘s head under his do-rag?,” amidst all of its extravagant exuberance. That said, this year’s show has been critically lauded for both headlining performers’ commanding stage presences at 43 and 50 respectively. From fierce pole dancing routines to aptly delivered socio-political messages weaved into the performance, JLo and Shakira put on a show that won’t soon be forgotten.
