Madeon’s ‘All My Friends’ gets the 1788-L treatment
“All my friends are watching, I can hear them talking,” loops in the introduction as an anxious precursor to 1788-L‘s infamous remix performances. His latest rewrite target is Madeon‘s “All My Friends,” the lead single off the French phenomenon’s spectacular Good Faith LP from late 2019. 1788-L’s rendition has an impeccable ability to maintain the original’s style, while making the sound entirely his own.
The production enigma maintained Madeon’s light tones and pleasant harmonies in the first verse, while taking a turn to the dark side for the signature glitch rock elements that pepper his productive repertoire. Using a completely grittier synth and glitch ad libs, 1788-L still kept that groovy, driving bounce from the original.
1788-L saw a major rise in prominence in 2018 through deliberate remix work of artists like Daft Punk, Virtual Self, Kraftwerk, and Skrillex. The glitched-out, cinematic, headbanging rhythms from the computer-focused hidden figure found their way on REZZ‘s Certain Kind of Magic album and Illenium‘s “Sound of Where’d You Go” Awake remix album. He also did official remixes for The Glitch Mob and RL Grime.
