Paxahau has officially announced the postponement of Movement Detroit to later in 2020, citing uncertainty surrounding the ongoing developments and rapid spread of COVID-19. The Detroit event promoters made the announcement earlier today, pushing the festival from the Memorial Day weekend to September 11-13, 2020. As the festival approaches their 20th anniversary, Movement Detroit is the latest event forced to adapt due to the ongoing effects of the coronavirus.

In lieu of this news, Movement Detroit has stated all purchased festival passes are valid for their new date or for the 2021 edition, and refunds are available to those who are unavailable to make either dates.

The widespread and quick escalation of COVID-19 has led to unprecedented developments in the music and live events industries, and potentially shaking up the future of local and independent event promoters. To date, gargantuan festivals such as Coachella and Ultra Music Festival have been forced to take action and postpone their festival dates to abide by developing regulations. For smaller or independent promoters that were forced to cancel or postpone their events, the future of their livelihood may be left uncertain. On March 13, 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) amended their previous advisory on limiting public gatherings to a maximum of 50 people, to a maximum of 10 people for the upcoming eight weeks.

In the meantime, it remains crucial for all to continue implementing measures like social distancing, hand washing, and surface cleaning to prevent the spread of the virus. While it mainly affects elders and those with pre-existing conditions, healthy individuals pose a risk in spreading it to this more vulnerable population.
