Damon Albarn and 2-D perform first-ever Gorillaz duet on Kimmel

As late-night TV shows continue to operate remotely, the shows’ musical guests have started to push the boundaries on how to creatively stand out with their live setups while in quarantine. Last week, Kevin Parker tripled himself where he sang, played guitar, and bass with a psychedelic light show during his Tame Impala performance on Colbert.

This week, Damon Albarn stepped up for a live rendition of his Gorillaz song “Aries,” the third addition to the Song Machine series, on Jimmy Kimmel Live! For the first time in the band’s history, Albarn performed a duet with one of his animated characters, 2-D, “over Zoom” for the socially distanced performance. The UK mastermind played the piano and sang from a cluttered room in what appears to be his house while 2-D’s location flipped between the Taj Mahal and a room with someone doing yoga.

Watch the full performance of “Aries” below.
