It’s hard to believe it’s already been half a year since the release of Fox Stevenson‘s Killjoy album. Named one of DA‘s Artists to Watch in 2020, the Leeds-based artist is showing the world what the year holds for him with the release of his powerful first 2020 single, “Like That.” The audacious tune sees the producer positively bursting with energy, taking time to “hug [his] demons” and “fist bump Jesus” in a way only he can. It’s endearing and so wholeheartedly Fox Stevenson.
Newest on the NewRetroWave Records release radar is a powerful synthwave production from Wice. “Interstellar” sets the tone from its initial moody notes and cranks the dial on the drama and intensity factors. Its immeasurable layers of synths are perfectly crafted, and the song would feel right at home soundtracking a post-apocalyptic film or late-night driving scene.
Grant set the bar high for himself this year with a captivating remix of Zedd and Kehlani‘s “Good Thing” on the third day of 2020. Since then, all had been quiet on the release front, but he recently linked with Nevve for “Distraction” on Lowly Palace. The single showcases the producer’s pristine production and Nevve’s catchy vocals and is likely to have listeners hitting repeat. In a recent tweet, Grant noted that it had “been nine months since my last original song so I wanted any material I release now to represent 100% honest effort. I’m so proud of how this turned out!”
Dustycloud fans should know what to expect from his new single just by looking at its relaxing, sunset-splashed artwork. “Golden Hour” is a laid-back, blissful house composition that sees the Parisian producer step out of the hazy nightclub to spend some time soaking up the last few hours of daylight. Its peaceful melody, soulful vocals, and understated beat give fans the perfect soundscape to unwind in.
RAC‘s Boy LP hit the airwaves in full on May 8, with a variety of features sprinkled amongst its 18 tracks. Toward the end of the album, the Grammy-winning producer taps Instupendo for a track called “Get A Life.” The two artists gel so well from the get-go, as a breezy guitar melody introduces Instupendo’s introductory verse. Though they’ve worked together in the past—with Instupendo remixing RAC’s “Unusual” a few years ago—this is the first time they’ve fully collaborated on a track. The end result is a clear standout on the new album.
