Saturday Night Session 038: Loud Luxury gives fans a peek behind the curtain when it comes to their creative process and hobbies outside of music

Few moments are more sacred than the reprieve Saturday night provides from the daily grind of school and work. Its importance is meant to be emphasized, and thus, a feature dedicated to “doing the night right” was born. Saturday Night Sessions are set around energizing mixes meant to get the party started. New or old, each episode has one cornerstone thing in similarity: they serve as the perfect backdrop for the weekend pregame.

A slow and steady rise into notoriety is something Andrew Fedyk and Joe Depace will never know. The artists comprise the now well-known DJ and production duo Loud Luxury, and they arrived in 2017 with a single that took over not only electronic music radio waves, but mainstream radio waves across the world. “Body” was the fifth single ever from the duo, and in addition to going Diamond and Platinum, the single is attributed to the duo scoring their first major label deal with Armada Music. Loud Luxury arrived with “Body,” but they escaped the notion that they would be one-hit wonders as soon as they released music to follow, including “Love No More” featuring Anders, which went Gold.

Three years since their breakthrough single, Fedyk and Depace are one EP and four original singles removed from “Body.” They have a Vegas residency, and they concluded an extensive 2019 ‘Nights Like This’ Bus Tour that saw them hit over 175+ tour dates in one year. While that tour schedule is nothing short of overwhelming, 2020 has given them more than enough time to recover due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fedyk and Depace live in Los Angeles, where they say they have used the time at home to write. While the time to write has been a blessing for them, the lack of touring has impacted part of the creative process. Fedyk speaks on this, saying, “We for sure miss being on the road. I don’t know what to do with myself with all this free time and playing shows definitely adds a new dimensions to the music you’re making – you get to see what works and what doesn’t in real time.”

The artists enlist upon life experiences to write, as explained by both of them when they speak about how their Nights Like This EP was inspired by real parties and experiences they had lived. Surprisingly, the releases from their EP was music that has lived with them since they started touring in 2017. It begs the question of what their output from their ‘quarantine creations’ will be, and what new music they have in store for the future.

The pandemic has given artists a chance to focus on hobbies they may not have had time for around their busy touring schedules. It also gives artists a way to show more of themselves to fans and connect over areas outside of music. When asked if they had hobbies that fans may not know about, both Fedyk and Depace had quite different, albeit charming, responses.

Fedyk shares, “I’m really good at watching Netflix, which has been a blessing during quarantine. We’re both really into fitness which is important for playing a crazy amount shows a year and not burning out.”

Depace separately adds, “I’ve taken up oil painting which is a great way to stay creative in a different way and stay relaxed. I am learning how to cook and watching a bunch of masterclasses, really just anything to keep yourself engaged.”

Despite the current pandemic, Fedyk and Depace feel strongly that the party can carry on even if it is at home. As such, they have created a custom one hour Saturday Night Session to keep the excitement and energy alive even when listening at home. Fedyk concludes with, “Just because it’s quarantine, it doesn’t mean we can’t party. These are some of our favorite tracks at the moment and it’s going to get you moving.”

You have talked about what it was like for you trying to make it in this industry before “Body” was released. Can you talk a little bit about those days compared to now?

Andrew – We’re from Canada originally and both of us had a feeling that we needed be in the action  so we packed up all of our things straight out of college and moved to Los Angeles.

Joe – We quit our jobs so fortunately we didn’t have anything to do but just make music day in and out just producing with the goal of creating “a sound.” If you’re ever debating taking things to the next level, it’s better to have more time to master your craft than a little extra money from a day job.

2019 was an insane year for you guys with touring. It feels like you never stopped. Tell us what 2020 has been like comparatively from your perspective? Do you miss being on the road?

Joe – I don’t think there is a single place between Canada and the United States that we did NOT go to in 2019. However, every crowd was honestly so incredible it made all of those sleepless nights worth it.

Andrew – We for sure miss being on the road. I don’t know what to do with myself with all this free time and playing shows definitely adds a new dimensions to the music you’re making – you get to see what works and what doesn’t in real time.

Where do you draw creative inspiration from? What inspired your recent Nights Like This EP?

Andrew – Nights Like This was inspired by all the crazy parties we’ve been a part of throughout the years.

Joe – We basically wanted to create the soundtrack to a night out that was meant for everyone. That’s what Nights Like This is, it can mean anything to anyone.

Do you have more new music in store for 2020?

Joe – Absolutely. The Nights Like This EP was actually music that has lived with us since we started touring in 2017. Especially with quarantine we have plenty of time at home to push the boundaries and write.

Outside of producing music and touring, do either of you have hobbies/interests that your fans may not know about?

Andrew – I’m really good at watching Netflix which has been a blessing during quarantine. We’re both really into fitness which is important for playing a crazy amount shows a year and not burning out.

Joe – I’ve taken up oil painting which is a great way to stay creative in a different way and stay relaxed. I am learning how to cook and watching a bunch of masterclasses, really just anything to keep yourself engaged.

Quarantine aside, what is your ideal Saturday Night?

Joe – Honestly, right now it’s definitely playing shows. Nothing makes us happier than being out in new places and meeting new people and having good times.

Andrew – Couldn’t agree more.

What kind of a Saturday night is your Saturday night session going to get listeners ready for?

Andrew – Just because it’s quarantine, it doesn’t mean we can’t party. These are some of our favorite tracks at the moment and it’s going to get you moving.

Joe – We hope you guys enjoy and thanks for listening!
