Armin van Buuren and Jamis partner for throttling one-off, ‘Boom Boom’
Armin van Buuren knows his way around a main stage and it shows on “Boom Boom,” a single that gives streamers a sense of what to expect merely from its title alone. Produced alongside Jamis, the speaker blaster harkens back to both the larger-than-life sound that characterized electronic music of the 2010s and van Buuren’s June 12 release, “Tarzan,” which saw van Buuren and BlasterJaxx collaboratively revisit bigroom technics.
With the 2020 festival season on a near certain hiatus due to coronavirus health concerns, listeners unfortunately won’t have the opportunity to feel the floor shaking power of “Boom Boom” on grassy festival grounds, but it doesn’t take much imagination to visualize the blazing pyrotechnics display and crowd energy that this number would have elicited under normal circumstances. Agile, tribal-inflected percussion commands a striking authority on “Boom Boom” as a throttling bass line lays down the law: you’ll dance to this. Uncoincidentally, we are.
