BLVK JVCK grapples with the current state of America in new visual for ‘WHVT’
DJ and producer Jermaine “Mayne Zayne” Jackson is making his voice heard through his latest creation, music video for single “WHVT.” Jackson has been producing for years under alias The Runners alongside Andrew “Dru Brett” Harr, however he has reinvented himself as a live act under BLVK JVCK.
The Big Beat-signed artist has released “WHVT” via Deadbeats, and the track itself features monstrous synths paired with aggressive vocals, encapsulating the rage that the newly released video invokes. The video grapples with the racial injustice that has pervaded the United States, and the punching drops accompany an angry and unfairly treated African American man (played by Jackson) who is continuously beaten down. The video begins with Nelson Mandela’s line, “When a man is denied the right to live the life he believes in, he has no choice but to become an outlaw.” The line itself is representative of the video’s content, and the visuals make viewers continue to question the world they are a part of.
Jackson speaks to Dancing Astronaut about the video, telling us,
“Despite how far we’ve come as a country , it’s sad to be reminded of how we are still so far away from the true American dream! The pain and rage we all feel at this moment will ring out across the world. As a black man, brother, son, husband and artist it is my duty to use my platform to express my emotions through my art.”
