Coachella announces official 2021 dates, cancels 2020 festival

While initially postponing its annual spring dates to October, Coachella has officially cancelled all plans for 2020. This news follows rumors of the Riverside-county based festivals’ efforts to rebook artists for 2021. There was additional hope in parent company AEG, who was reportedly eyeing a reduced capacity event for the rescheduled fall festival. However, the official cancellation was announced by festival organizer Goldenvoice via Coachella’s Instagram. Under company letterhead, Goldenvoice states:

“Under the continuing health guidance of the County of Riverside, Coachella and Stagecoach 2020 will not take place this October as previously rescheduled…This is not the future that any of us hoped to confront, but our main focus remains the well-being of our fans, staff, artists, desert partners and everyone involved in the festival.

The letter goes on to announce the newly scheduled dates of April 9-11, 2021 (weekend one) and April 16-18, 2021 (weekend two). They’ve also ensured all 2020 passes will carry over to 2021 unless a refund is requested.

This news comes shortly after the Lollapalooza organizers cancelled this year’s installment, slated for July 30 weekend. Looking towards 2021, festival-goers can hope that artists expected to play 2020, including Frank Ocean, Madeon, Tchami, Caribou, and Travis Scott, will reclaim the main stage.
