Kygo recreates Tina Turner’s iconic ’80s classic, ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’
Golden Hour is not even two months in the rearview, but Kygo has no intention of letting that prevent his release tally from rising. While the LP undoubtedly remains in heavy rotation, Kygo is doubling down on his adaptations of time-honored classics after renewing Whitney Houston’s “Higher Love” in 2019. Following Kygo’s surprise announcement of the then forthcoming collaboration during the week of July 13, Kygo and Tina Turner have officially come together to recreate her three-time Grammy Award-winning 1984 single, “What’s Love Got to Do With It.”
Comparable to his revision of “Higher Love,” Kygo does justice to Tina Turner’s lyrics, crossing them with his world-class piano progression and tropical taste. In speaking on the opportunity to adapt the abiding record, Kygo imparted that he was more than grateful for the chance to work on Turner’s tune:
“I couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with Tina Turner, who is an icon that I grew up listening to. ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ is one of my all-time favorite songs, so to have a chance to rework it has been a very special moment in my career. I love working around timeless vocals and although it’s challenging to preserve elements of the original track and add my own touch, I’m extremely happy with how it turned out!”
