Noisia’s Thys seemingly confirms existence of side project with Skrillex
Throughout 2020, the whispers about Skrillex‘s activity have grown more frequent, and the details have remained few. From conjectures that Skrillex is collaborating with the producers of Juice WRLD‘s posthumous LP, Legends Never Die, and Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys, to suggestions of not one but multiple albums in progress, the rumor mill has had a busy run of late. Unsurprisingly, there’s more to fuel it.
In a recent Twitter AMA, Noisia‘s Thys appeared to confirm the existence of a nascent side project with Skrillex, writing that “ILY” was “the question that binds” him and Skrillex together. When a fan ran with the idea that Thys and Skrillex were involved in a side project, Thys further sparked suspicion, not denying the claim, but rather writing, “let’s see what comes from it.”
The catalyst for this possible side project in the making? A surprise back-to-back set featuring Skrillex and Thys at Oost Nightclub in Groningen, Netherlands in February. It’s too early to say what this budding creative partnership might yield moving forward, but Skrillex and This’ respective followings can rest assured that something is cooking. The veiled news come shortly after Noisia’s recent announcement that their last tour before their imminent retirement, “Farewell,” has been postponed to 2021.
It’s the question that binds us together. @Skrillex— Thys (@ThysMusic) July 24, 2020
let’s see what ever comes from it, but we are off to a great start with that name, and that set at OOST!— Thys (@ThysMusic) July 24, 2020
Yesterday was one for the books. 90 minutes set became 3 hours set… Not even surprised. We did end up playing a few dubstep tunes, but mostly techno/electro/breakbeat/house/whatever you call that good stuff at 130 bpm. Thanks Groningen and lovely OOST crew, thanks @Skrillex <3— Thys (@ThysMusic) February 2, 2020
