Above & Beyond had to put their widely anticipated Acoustic III tour on hold this year, but the GRAMMY-nominated trio has reunited with Zoë Johnston to give fans a taste of what would have been. Paavo Siljamäki, Tony McGuinness, and Jono Grant’s reunion with their serial collaborator and live band has resulted in a cover of Julee Cruise’s “Falling,” the original opening theme of cult ’90s series, Twin Peaks.

The rework will not only excite Twin Peaks fans but will also give listeners a soothing pause to their day with melodic notes that fuse gracefully with Johnston’s vocals. Above & Beyond’s Tony McGuinness discussed the group’s inspiration to release the acoustic rendition, stating,

“During the early days of lockdown, I was posting Above & Beyond guitar tutorials online and someone suggested we do a Twin Peaks cover in the comments. I thought it was a great idea and spoke to Zoë that same afternoon. The music of David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti was an important reference for the sound of Acoustic […] on the last Acoustic tour, we came on stage to “Audrey’s Dance” from the original Twin Peaks soundtrack album. Our cover starts out quite faithful to the Julee Cruise original, but using some other 1990s references, wanders off into its own lovely space.”

Above & Beyond’s Acoustic III album will be released in December via Anjunabeats.
