TSHA joins the Ninja Tune family with first single of 2020, ‘Sister’

London based musician TSHA may be a relative newcomer to the current electronic music landscape, but her delicate studio touch and distinct ability to blend influences from across the spectrum paint a picture of a producer mature beyond her years. TSHA makes her debut on the iconic Ninja Tune label today, August 18, with “Sister,” the ambitiously melodic lead single from her forthcoming Flowers EP.

There’s a little bit of a lot going on in “Sister,” from the worldly Bonobo-esque bounce, to the pitched down vocals that give the single a club-ready twist while preserving TSHA’s softer musical side. But rather than feeling like a concoction of random ingredients, “Sister” these eclectic elements like a track that’s confident in its sonic identity. Case in point are the acid undertones that take a supporting role, ebbing and flowing through what might otherwise fall in line with modern definitions of “organic house.” But what may sound a bit left field in the hands of a lesser producer ends up feeling right at home with TSHA’s nuanced approach to mixing and compositions.

Like much of the great art emerging in the latter half of 2020, the heartfelt inspiration for “Sister” was found during the long days of isolation, TSHA explains,

“I wrote “Sister” during lockdown after finding out I had an older half sister from my estranged father that she is also estranged from.” She continues, “We spoke on the phone and were texting each other in lockdown and we recently met for the first time. She’s lovely and we got on straight away, so I’m very happy to have a new member of my family as I’ve not had much of that in my life. The song is an expression of all of those feelings.”

TSHA’s celebrates her full coming out party with Ninja Tune on October 16 as she releases her much anticipated Flowers EP. Pre-order the release in its entirety here.
