A-Trak, Dave 1 share second single under The Brothers Macklovitch banner, ‘I Can Call You’

A-Trak and Dave 1 of Chromeo, better known together as The Brothers Macklovitch, release their second track “I Can Call You,” set out to channel the sounds of their formative years. As the two spent countless hours digging for records and falling in love with music as funk-hungry Montreal teens, the Grammy-nominated siblings cover a 1995 track by the R&B group Portrait. They speed it up and injected the tune with jazz modifications like it came straight from their parents’ basement with Dave on vocals and production from A-Trak.

“I Can Call You” follows the brothers’ debut single, “Give Love To Get Some,” featuring R&B singer Leven Kali. It makes sense that the brothers’ first two official releases would be grounded in funk. Dave 1, born David Macklovitch, has been spreading his brand of nu-disco pop-funk with Chromeo since 2004. On the other hands, A-Trak, lesser known as Alain Macklovitch, has built his reputation on being more aurally diverse. But based on his early years in the hip-hop circuit and his party-starting disco-house duo, Duck Sauce, it’s clear the funk supports all of his musical efforts regardless of apparent genre tropes.
