Gianni Blu’s gilded house touch glints on ‘Like Gold’
In recent months, Gianni Blu has shown that his house touch is, in the titular fashion of his latest single, “Like Gold.” Commanding a can’t-miss presence in the contemporary house circuit, 2020 alone has seen the Chicago-based producer supply an unremitting stream of hybrids within the genre, simultaneously strengthening his status as a stylistic tastemaker whose dynamism means that no crossover aesthetic is off-limits.
With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that Blu’s most recent release sees him interweave R&B and tropical house inflection with dance-pop, a tried-and-true backbone of a Blu production. No disparate affair, the multi-genre elements co-exist in cohesion on “Like Gold,” which sources its silken R&B-leaning vocals from D. Lylez, whom followers of NBC’s The Voice will recognize from season 18 of the show.
Tropical house-derived breaks roll coolly through the mid-tempo cut’s course, sonically refreshing “Like Gold,” a gilded sixth addition to Blu’s 2020 resume. “Like Gold” arrives courtesy of one of Europe’s largest independent labels, LoudKult, and follows July’s “Summer Jam” and prior, June’s “ENDLESSLY.”
