James Blake shares acoustic cover of Frank Ocean’s ‘Godspeed’
It’s been a very blonde week for James Blake. In addition to dying his hair platinum, Blake shared a stripped back cover of Frank Ocean‘s Blonde track, “Godspeed.” The original’s soft electric pianos and subtle background elements are ditched for only Blake at his piano, a move that lets the melody and Blake’s stunning vocals shine.
James Blake is a credited producer on the original recording of “Godspeed,” as well as “Solo,” also featured on 2016’s Blonde. “Godspeed” is Blake’s first release since “Are You Even Real?” in July and “You’re Too Precious” in April. More recently, the English producer also picked up a credit on Flatbush Zombies’ latest single, “Afterlife.” Listen to James Blake’s take on “Godspeed” below.
