KAYTRANADA and Buddy hop on Maeta’s latest, ‘Teen Scene’
It’s time to get familiar with Maeta. The young, soulful singer has been steadily making a name for herself with no features on her singles, with these efforts culminating in her 2019 EP, Do Not Disturb. Now, at just 19-years-old, she has enlisted two of modern music’s hottest feature credits, KAYTRANADA and Buddy.
The trio’s new single, “Teen Scene,” is an ideal blend of each artist’s strengths; KAYTRANADA’s breezy production leaves plenty of room for Maeta to float above the instrumental, whose light vocal performance nicely juxtaposes Buddy’s tight rhyme scheme. Maeta’s star quality is glaringly apparent throughout her discography, and if she wasn’t already turning heads, “Teen Scene” should put her on the radar of music fans everywhere.
The latest feature caps off an already big week for Canadian producer KAYTRANADA, who dropped the instrumentals for his sophomore LP, BUBBA, earlier the week of September 7. Meanwhile, Compton-native Buddy has had a massive year as well. The omni-talented artist (who dance fans will recognize from Alison Wonderland‘s Awake) has continuously raised his profile all year long, most notably with his Tinashe-assisted track, “Glitch.” and his standout single, “Black 2.”
