Slowthai teams with James Blake, Mount Kimbie for trippy ‘feel away’ music video
The normally gritty, raw style of the Northampton rapper is pulled back to showcase a more reflective, peaceful side in memory of his late baby brother, Michael John. Alongside Blake’s soulful cadence, slowthai’s cutting vocals add a complimentary contrast to the project in conjunction with dynamic, melancholy production play from the electronic music veteran.
The music video, directed by Oscar Hudson, showcases a trippy perspective as slowthai trades places with a woman who he proposes to at the beginning, becomes pregnant, gives birth as the head surgeon proposes to his wife, and wakes up from the apparent fever dream as the new, unknown protagonist eats a cake in the shape of the new-born baby. It’s slowthai’s beloved brand of strange, while still managing to showcase another facet to the rhymer’s rising profile.
