When doesn’t Diplo have some tricks up his sleeve? That’s a rhetorical question, of course, with the Higher Ground label boss most recently evincing his tireless capacity for surprises at “Under Ancient Skies: A Night of Ambient Music and Stargazing.”
An intimate, four-date run of shows hosted in Pioneertown and Big Sur, California, the outdoor series followed Diplo’s recent release of his first-ever ambient album, MMXX, affording fans an opportunity to stand before the producer, thanks to his partnership with the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. Hosted in collaboration with the Smithsonian, Under Ancient Skies would come with an element of the unexpected: a cameo from Flume
Video from the candlelit event recently published to the Skin producer’s Instagram shows Flume assume his spot on the decks alongside Diplo and Secular Sabbath, deviating from his quotidian sound to don the ambient technics of the evening.
